boris『dronevil -final- disc drone』&『dronevil -final- disc evil』

In 2025, to mark the 20th anniversary of dronevil, a new version titled dronevil -example- was released.
The original album dronevil was first released in 2005 as a double-vinyl set with four tracks by Misanthropic Agenda. In 2006, two additional tracks were included and the complete version, dronevil -final-, was released as a 2CD set.

The concept was to play the two discs, drone and evil, on separate players and speakers, allowing each listener to mix them in the air of the room at a balance that felt natural to them. With differences in volume balance, playback timing, and distance from each sound, the listening experience was never the same twice. It was a highly conceptual work, celebrated and acclaimed as experimental, but also regarded as challenging due to its concept, and it had long been out of print.

The recently released dronevil -example- is a version in which the simultaneously played discs were stereo-mixed on the Boris side and presented as one example of a reference.

Now, dronevil -final- has been digitized for the first time. To allow new listeners to experience this “masterpiece of experimental + drone metal” in its original concept, it is being released directly from the original sources.
As noted above, disc drone forms a pair with disc evil. Of course, each disc can also be enjoyed individually for the quality of the songs in a straightforward way, but we strongly encourage you to experience it in its intended form, using your smartphone, computer, or other multiple digital playback devices.

We want dronevil -final- to be completed by you, in your own way.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the albums PINK and dronevil, special editions of each will be released on October 17 via Relapse.

PINK will be reissued for the first time in a decade. The 20th Anniversary Edition presents the original CD track sequence on a 2xLP for the very first time, with an exclusive etching on Side D. In addition, PINK will be released as a deluxe reissue box set: a limited 6xLP collection that includes three full LPs of previously unreleased material. The deluxe box set features the original vinyl version of PINK, expanded “Forbidden Tracks” from the PINK sessions, never-before-released live material on vinyl, and previously unreleased rough mixes.

dronevil will also be reissued for the first time since its original release. A work consisting of two different albums—an ambient soundscape and extreme heavy rock—designed to be played simultaneously, dronevil now returns in a brand-new edition. This version is presented as a joint 2xLP mix, available for the first time ever on vinyl, under the title dronevil – example –.

Pre-orders are available now through Relapse and Bandcamp (PINK and dronevil). You can also stream Boris’ PINK performed in its entirety—Live at Shindata Fever 20160924 (included in the deluxe reissue box set)—as well as dronevil – example –.

Enjoy!!

“LIVE NOISE ALIVE” -Live at Daikanyama Unit-

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the release of Noise,
we recently released LIVE NOISE ALIVE – Live at Daikanyama Unit as a double vinyl edition.
Now, it is also available digitally on Bandcamp.

Starting at 00:00 on Wednesday, July 30th, JST.

The studio album “NOISE” was released in 2014.
Starting with “PINK” in 2005, which was their breakthrough overseas, “SMILE” in 2006 became the starting point for a full-fledged touring band with over 100 shows a year, and after many experimental productions, they released three albums in 2011: “Heavy Rocks”, “Attention Please” and “New Album”. After overcoming various situations, such as the departure of long-time support guitarist Michio Kurihara, Boris arrived at an extremely organic sound image that was free from the grid.
This album, titled “Your Noise, My Music”, is not just a culmination of their previous work, but a milestone that clearly shows what lies ahead.
The live album “Boris “Live Noise Alive”” is a recording of the final solo live performance at Daikanyama UNIT in Tokyo on September 23, 2014, on the last day of their Japan tour after a US headline tour in which they performed 27 shows in 35 days.
The set list is mainly from “NOISE” but also includes songs from their past albums, and the sound image evolved and deepened through the response of the audience every day during the tour, and further physicalized, which can be said to be the essential completion of “NOISE”.
We hope that the audience who witnessed it in real time back then, as well as young listeners who have recently discovered Boris, will enjoy it not as a live album as a rite of passage, but as a new album.

Just announced today, Out 25th November 2024 on 625 Productions & Mighty Morphine Power Violence !!

チェコのパワーバイオレンスSkiplifeとBorisとの記念すべきスプリット5インチが11/25にリリース決定。

An international collaboration that bridges the sludge and powerviolence scenes with a strong “This is just hardcore, can’t you see?” (SPAZZ) message. Japan’s legendary BORIS have crafted their unique brand of heavy, amplified drone evil for over three decades and it’s safe to say that this brand new track “Hate” collected here may be their best song to date. As the band’s drummer and vocalist Atsuo describes, the track is executed in “latest Hyper-Power Violence mode.” And, this is BORIS’s first appearance on the 5″ vinyl format! On the flipside is the Czech Republic’s punishing purveyors of powerviolence, SKIPLIFE, who have reignited the spirit of 1990s west coast powerviolence. For this special release, SKIPLIFE dug deep into the past by contributing a powerviolence cover of LOVE’s “7 and 7 Is.” Band members even swapped duties in the recording in order to honour the infamous “crystal meth doomed” drummer switcheroo recordings of this 1966 proto-punk classic. Together, BORIS and SKIPLIFE promote “AMPLIFIED POWER VIOLENCE WORSHIP.” 400 on Purple Vinyl, 100 on Orange vinyl.

Just Announce,  Amplifier Worship 25th Anniversary Edition LP via Third Man Records.
The limited LP features cover art by Aaron Horkey, out Sep. 27th.
See Boris on tour in the U.S. from Sep. 25th – Nov. 3rd.

As Boris prepare for their six-week-long U.S. tour where they’ll perform their beloved first album Amplifier Worship in its entiretythe band announce that they’ve teamed up with Third Man Records for a 25th Anniversary Vinyl release of the album.

The limited / special edition vinyl re-release features cover art by Aaron Horkey by request of Boris, and will be available on the road and in stores on September 27 [pre-order].  Boris comments, “This idea came from Aaron’s real-time experience of ‘gummy worms in the jewel case’ at the time of the ‘Amplifier Worship’ CD release.”  They continue, “The image of the frogs on the original jacket combined with the precise and delicate brushstrokes of Aaron’s style has created a new ‘Amplifier Worship’ world.”

Additionally, Boris have shared a never-before-seen music video on YouTube, featuring vintage performance footage, for Amplifier Worship‘s pummeling album closer “Kuruimizu.”
Check it Out.

The album, never-before-released on vinyl or digital formats, will be available 8/18 (DL) and 9/8 (CD/LP).

21 years since it first surfaced, Boris’ landmark album Heavy Rocks (2022) will finally be reissued. Its original release in 2002 circulated only domestically in Boris’ home base of Japan, leaving worldwide listeners eager for physical copies of the album.  At the time, as record pressings were in production, a fire broke out at the plant and the stamper was lost, rendering the album out-of-print for many, many years — and it quickly became a cult classic.

Now, Boris and Third Man Records are excited to present Heavy Rocks (2022) on LP and digital formats for the first time ever (+ a CD format re-press).  The reissue, out digitally on August 18th and physically on September 8th, was restored from the original TD master.

“Heavy Rocks” is a consistent theme and symbol for Boris, so it is all-too fitting that the now-classic album that first used the term has now come again, at long last.
